Two plastic surgery original articles related to a particular technique in the operations of cleft in children entitled Primary rhinoplasty by open approach along with the repair of the complete unilateral and bilateral cleft lip at the age of three months, authored by Dr C. Thomas, senior consultant and head of plastic surgery service, Khoula Hospital, were published in the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, an indexed prestigious journal from United States of America.
This technique was originated and developed over the years since 1994 at Khoula Hospital, Oman to correct the nasal deformities along with the repair of the cleft lip.
New technique
In the past, nasal deformities were corrected by a separate operation at a later stage. By adopting this new technique, a separate operation can be avoided, at the same time, offering a new normal appearance to the face of the cleft children at the very early age of three months. Considering the excellent results of this technique Dr C Thomas was invited as a guest faculty at the World Craniofacial Foundation conference in Texas, USA in September 2008, and he was requested to perform this operation which was live telecasted to an audience of over 500 plastic surgeons from all over the world.
It is worth mentioning that he was the only plastic surgeon working outside USA who was requested to perform the live surgery in the conference.
Now, he is invited to the International Confederation of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery congress at New Deihi India from November 29 to December 03, 2009 to give a guest lecture of the above operation.
This is a great recognition and credit to the work of the Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Khoula Hospital, Ministry of Health and to Oman.
