Medical Associations to Boycott Insurance Companies

On Wednesday, four medical associations said they might stop dealing with health insurance companies that do not commit to the 2008 price list.

Jordanian Medical Association President Ahmad Armouti said that several providers of health insurance are still paying doctors, dentists and pharmacists according to the prices agreed upon by all parties in 1998 or 1994 and are not committed to the latest list.

“Doctors’ costs have increased over the past 10 years, and paying them less than the real cost will have a negative impact on them,” Armouti told The Jordan Times yesterday, adding that the concerned associations will study the issue thoroughly before deciding to stop dealing with the insurance companies.

“Beneficiaries will be affected if we implement the decision not to deal with these companies. Thus, we will attempt to reach a final solution with them before boycotting any company,” Armouti explained.

He noted that the issue was discussed by the Jordanian medical, dentists and pharmacists associations, in addition to the Private Hospitals Association, late Tuesday.

He added that the Pharmacists Association has already met with members from across the Kingdom and is studying a possible decision to stop dispensing medicine to beneficiaries of companies that do not pay according to the list.
