CANINO: We actually favor going with a single-vendor solution for RIS/PACS because of the need for a tight interface between the two platforms. We did install a new KODAK CARESTREAM PACS and interfaced it to our existing RIS via HL7, but we did this as an interim step to implementing a new RIS from Carestream Health in 2008 that is designed for outpatient imaging centers.We could continue using our existing RIS but the new RIS offers us added features and functionality that will improve the productivity of our radiologists and enhance the overall efficiency of our operation.
