Al Ain Child Health Institute to Introduce Sub-specialities

The Child Health Institute of Al Ain Hospital will introduce an
array of sub-specialties, including paediatric neurology, child metabolic diseases, chronic allergies, dedicated intensive care, advanced paediatric surgery and adolescence clinic, as part of the hospital’s comprehensive expansion strategy.

“Our aim is to strengthen the reputation of Al Ain Hospital as a community hospital catering to both nationals as well as expatriates,” George Jepson, the hospital’s CEO, said in a statement on Monday.

Professor Andreas Boeck, a trained paediatric specialist from the Medical University of Vienna with extensive exposure to paediatric nephrology, haematology, oncology and immunology, who joined Al Ain Hospital as the chairman of Child Health Institute in May 2009, is spearheading the diversification of the institute. “There is a dire need for advanced and specialized paediatric health care in Al Ain and the region at large,” Boeck said.

“We envision Al Ain Child Health Institute to be a pioneer in this field. For instance, the introduction of paediatric neurology will facilitate appropriate medical intervention at the right time for a number of neurological disorders that will help prevent, cure and manage the medical problems arising from such conditions.

Boeck said other focus areas will include vitamin D deficiency and obesity in children which is assuming alarming proportions, high incidence of allergies, child protection, epilepsy and developmental delays.
