Al Raffah Hospital Offers Latest Facility on Audiometry

Al Raffah Hospital has announced its latest facility on audiometry, which allows both pediatric and adult patients to undergo measurement of hearing acuity. “Many people especially those who are diabetic and hypertensive could lose their sense of hearing and would only realize this in late stages. Ear infections are factors that could lead to hearing impairment. “That’s why audiometry plays an important role in diagnosing the type and cause of ear problems”, said Dr Yasmeen Khan, ENT surgeon at the Al Raffah Hospital.

Adults and children having diabetes, hypertension and ear infections are encouraged to undergo ear screening regularly as such conditions could lead to hearing problems, Dr Khan said. According to Dr Khan, ear infections are very common among children, and parents should not ignore this to avoid hearing loss. The common factors of ear infections include being exposed to cigarette smoking, frequent colds, having a family history of ear infections, being born premature or at low birth weight, and having allergies that cause congestion. “Ear infections must be taken very seriously. Thus, it is important that parents and individuals consult an ENT specialist before taking courses of antibiotics”, Dr Khan said.
