The Tunisian Public Health Ministry and the United Nations Development Program, on Wednesday, signed a program to reduce maternal mortality.
The signing ceremony was chaired by Messrs. Mondher Zenaidi, Public Health Minister and Mohamed Belhocine, Resident Co-ordinator of the United Nations System and UNDP Resident Representative in Tunis.
The signing of this program is part of enhancing Tunisia’s capacities to reach the fifth Millennium Development Goal.
The three-year program advocates for an intervention strategy for perinatal care dedicated in Tunisia to priority regions.
The minister said the signing of this convention is in line with the keenness to meet the needs of women in health care and prompt the achievement of national strategic orientations in this areas as defined in the presidential program for 2009-2014.
Mr. Mohamed Belhocine commended the Tunisian health system’s ability to innovate and implement efficient policies to reduce regional disparities in matters of development indicators.
He expressed UNDP readiness to bring support to Tunisia’s efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Secretary of State in charge of Hospitals and the representatives of WHO, UNDP, UNICEF and UNFPA in Tunis.
