Hamdan Bin Rashid Honours DHA Medical Professionals 1>

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai Health Authority honoured 78 Dubai Health Authority () staff for pursuing their higher-education degrees abroad.

The post-graduates included doctors, paramedics, technicians and administrators and the felicitation ceremony took place in the Rashid Hospital Library Auditorium.

The post-graduates obtained their degrees in diverse medical fields such as radiology, surgery, cardiology and administrative degrees in health management.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai Health Authority highlighted the importance of this event and said, “I am glad that the DHA pays such strong emphasis to harness our local talent and ensures that medical professionals are up-to-date with the latest international practices in medicine. The initiative to send doctors abroad for higher education benefits the medical sector because when they return home they serve the people of their country. Promoting and encouraging higher education is an integral strategy and this is a proud moment for the DHA”.

His Excellency Qadhi Saeed Al Murooshid, Director General of the Dubai Health Authority praised the efforts of the medical education department for supporting and encouraging DHA medical professionals to obtain higher education degrees.

He mentioned that the authority is very keen to nurture local talent and promote higher education, a strategy which is in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai and the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and President of Dubai Health Authority.

Al Murooshid said that the DHA has been and shall continue to support its staff by providing them study leave and counseling them on the various educational opportunities abroad in the field of medicine. “I have given great emphasis to promoting the culture of learning and attaining higher education degrees. The medical field is ever-evolving and I believe that highly qualified staff is crucial for the development process and is a desired factor to achieve success. It is a known fact that plans and policies can be implemented properly and effectively with the help of qualified personnel. At the DHA, we encourage higher education and training programs because we firmly believe that harnessing the talent of our medical staff will benefit our key stakeholder -our patients- who will get access to higher standards of healthcare.”

He said the DHA has made it an integral aspect of their program to send doctors abroad to the most prestigious universities to pursue their education. “When medical professionals return home armed with international degrees and experience, it helps accelerate the pace of development in the healthcare sector and benefits our citizens and our residents. This strategy also helps promote medical research which we believe is very important to understand the needs of our population and to develop baseline policies to address those needs.”

The Director General praised the efforts undertaken by the medical education department and he mentioned that presently there are 41 DHA staff members who are currently pursuing their higher education abroad.

These include physicians, technicians and administrators who are studying in universities across the world especially in Europe, America and Australia in diverse medical fields such as surgery, cardiology, neurology and other disciplines. He said that on an average, every year, more than 14 doctors undertake this program and the DHA fully supports this endeavour.

The felicitation ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials including Dr Hanif Hassan, UAE Minister of Health and H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Roads and Transportation Authority ( RTA)

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and President of Dubai Health Authority accompanied by His Excellency Qadhi Saeed Al Murooshid, Director General of Dubai Health Authority, honoured the post-graduate staff and presented them with gifts.

His Excellency also presented Sheikh Hamdan a painting on behalf of the DHA to thank him for his support.
