Improving Working Environment

The Ministry of Labour (MoL) has finalised a new multi-unit organisational structure for it to ensure a safe and stable working environment so that the rights of both the employers and employees are protected in the country.

Under the new structure, there will be separate units for communication with the employers and employees as well as for ensuring the country’s labour laws are effectively implemented.

“A new unit called my administration (Edarti) is one of the key tools to implement the ministry’s strategic plan. New units for communicating with employers and employees were created at the Guidance Department to boost inspection mechanisms in order to protect rights of all parties as per laws and legislation,” Minister of Labour Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobash told reporters on Tuesday.

“The MoL will improve all active channels of communication with its stakeholders inside and outside the country so as to maintain the reputed standing of the UAE and uphold its national identity.”

The units, he said, would also educate employers and workers about their rights and duties.

“An occupational health and safety unit was also set up to ensure the highest standards of environmental safety and health at work sites at par with the best international practices,” Ghobash said.

The new workers’ housing unit will follow safety and security requirements at accommodation complexes.

“The creation of the Wage Protection Office demonstrates the ministry’s commitment to enforce the cabinet resolution regarding e-transfer of salaries of workers through banks,” he said.

The minister added that a labour office unit was created to improve standards of services delivered by labour offices across the nation to the level of best global practices.

He added that the Service Centres will deliver several services based on the public-private partnership under healthy competition in the country. The centres will also create job opportunities for UAE citizens. A unit for support and control will supervise and inspect these centres and agents to ensure their compliance with accredited criteria.

According to him, the artistic and design unit will produce print and audiovisual marketing and advertising materials for this purpose in line with requirements of the Prime Minister’s Office and corporate identity.
