Qatar Exclusive Unit For Health Certificates

The Medical Commission is planning to open an exclusive unit to issue mandatory health certificates to those working in the food, beauty and health industries, a senior official of the Commission has said.

The facility is expected to put an end to the alleged delay in the issue of such certificates.

People working in restaurants, beauty salons, butcheries etc are required to obtain a special certificate from the Medical Commission showing that they are free from contagious diseases.

However, there have been complaints that the procedures for issuing the certificate often take a long time. The document is to be renewed every year after fresh .

Some allege that the Medical Commission often loses the test results and asks the person to come back and undergo the test again. This leads to a delay in the procedures, while the Municipality insists for the medical certificate and will not accept the receipt as proof that they have undergone the tests.

The manager of a beauty salon said one of her employees had to undergo the blood test thrice because the Medical Commission allegedly lost test records.

“After the first test, the Commission asked me to come back after 10 days and when I reported the second time, the records were lost,” said the manager.

The Municipality imposes hefty fines on a company if any employee is found working without a health certificate.

Dr Ibrahim Al Shaar, Director of the Medical Commission said such complaints arise from ignorance about testing procedures.

“Normally the certificates are issued in two to three days after the tests. If further confirmatory tests are required for some suspected diseases, we will send SMS to the workers to report again to the Commission. When the tests are conducted again, they would think that the records of the previous tests were lost,” said Al Shaar.

He added that with the opening of the new unit the process for issuing the certificates would be made faster and easier.

“The unit will have separate facilities for conducting the tests. Currently, the equipment and facilities are shared by these categories and others seeking the mandatory medical tests,” said Al Shaar. The Commission conducts the tests for all new comers to the country while the health certificate is an additional requirement for workers in the above mentioned sectors.
