A Blood Donation Camp at Al Wasl Hospital

There is a voluntary blood donation camp will take place at  Al Wasl Hospital tomorrow from 8 am to 9 am  held by the Friends of India.

Speaking to Emirates Business, Prakash Krishnan, member of Friends of India, said anyone aged between 18 and 60 could donate blood, provided they hadn’t done so in the past 16 weeks.

“Every three seconds, someone, somewhere in the world needs a blood transfusion. That’s 16 people every minute; 960 every hour; 23,040 every day or 8,409,600 every year. So we urge people to come and donate blood. The whole process, from registration at the hospital to recovery takes just 30 minutes.”

Nadia Kalantar, Head of Marketing and Blood Donation Recruitment Unit, at the Dubai Blood Donation Centre in Al Wasl Hospital, said: “Our daily requirement is 150 to 200 pints as we supply blood to the Thalassemia Centre, the Trauma Centre at Rashid Hospital where most accident victims go, the Dubai Hospital, Al Wasl Hospital and almost all private hospitals in Dubai.

“We not only hold blood camps at Al Wasl Hospital, we also go out to organizations and companies all over Dubai and collect blood. If anyone wants to come in and donate blood we are open from 7 am to 7 pm, so they can just walk in anytime and help save someone’s life.”
