New Nuclear Diagnostic Device Soon Operational in Tunisia

With a view to improve health services in , recent efforts were focused on the implementation of several measures for the benefit of patients.

On February 4, the Salah Azaiez Institute in Tunis, a specialized center for cancer treatment, is preparing to put into operation a new nuclear diagnostic device, the first of its kind in Tunisia and North Africa. The news was announced on Monday by the Tunisian weekly newspaper “Al Mousawar”.

The new services will include modern instruments and the latest cutting edge technological equipment for the diagnosis of cancerous and non-cancer diseases such as a “gamma camera” scanner which is compatible with the “X” ray diagnosis in identifying the the disease.

The new device will enable the diagnosis of between 2500 and 3000 cases.

The use of nuclear medicine services at the Institute Salah Azaiez dates back to 1971.

In a related event Tunisia will also host from May 29 to 30, 2010, the 2nd National Congress of Nuclear Medicine.
