SKMC Manages a Mental Health Talk on March 2010

Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (), managed by Cleveland Clinic organizes a public health talk about on 2 March 2010 at the Behavioral Sciences Pavilion auditorium from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm. The health talk is part of the Awareness Program which will include monthly health talks on different topics related to in Arabic language. The invitation is extended to the public and SKMC’s patients. SKMC is owned and operated by SEHA, the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The first talk scheduled on 2 March 2010 will address mental health related problems in the contemporary society. The talk will be given in Arabic language by Dr. Mufeed Raoof, Psychiatrist, while the discussion panel will include Dr. Isis Badawi head of psychology department, and Mrs. Afrah Al Hashemi, Head of Social Service at the BSP.

Dr. Tarek Darwish, Medical Director at the Behavioral Sciences Pavilion said, “The invitation is directed to the public from all ages, and we highly encourage them to attend this gathering to help raise their awareness about the importance of mental health”.

“Such health talks will help us as healthcare professionals in the psychiatry field to highlight the importance of mental health amongst the community which unfortunately many people neglect or misunderstand”, Dr. Mufeed Raoof said.

The whole program is based on the fact that improving the mental health status of a given community is the responsibility of each and every individual in that community, in collaboration with the mental health professionals. In addition, the key requirement to achieve that is the public education in basic mental health issues and how to take responsibility in looking after the individuals’ and then the whole society’s well being.
