The Ministry of Health (MoH) will be presenting its electronic health information system Wareed for the first time to health ministers and representatives of health authorities today, the opening day of the 68th conference of the Council of Ministers of Health of the GCC in Abu Dhabi.
Wareed project is the first and largest public health care initiative in the UAE and the region aimed and revolutionising healthcare services with a fully-integrated patient health information system (HIS).
With HIS, patient information will be stored in a central database and physicians from affiliate hospitals and clinics across the UAE will be able to view patient’s medical history, including lab results, x-rays, treatment and medication, online.
“We hope that the other countries in the GCC can learn from this project and adopt the same system in their respective countries,” said Nasser Al Budoor, executive director, International Relations and Health Affairs at MoH and member of the Council of Ministers of Health of the GCC.
Budoor disclosed that the MoH have completed the implementation of the first phase of the Wareed system covering all hospitals and primary healthcare centres in Ajman. They are currently on the second phase with Al Qasimi and Al Kuwaiti Hospitals in Sharjah.
Launched in 2008, Wareed project will be implemented in over three years with all 14 MoH hospitals and 76 primary healthcare facilities in Dubai and the Northern Emirates utilising the system by 2011.
