Mobile Diabetic Clinic Soon in Eastern Province

A mobile diabetic clinic will soon be set up in Eastern Province to provide services to local communities, such as blood sugar level checkup and other medical examinations associated with the treatment and diagnosis of diabetes mellitus and endocrine diseases.

The mobile clinic is a project of the Saudi Diabetes & Endocrine Association (SDEA), and is aimed to encourage citizens and the expatriate communities to submit themselves for examination of their sugar level and receive advices on the management and treatment, according to Dr. Basem Futa, director of the SDEA information committee.

“The mobile clinic will be managed by a medical team and will be visiting specific areas to be indicated by diabetic clubs, charitable societies, and community organizations,” Futa said.

He said the mobile clinic will also carry a mini-library and will serve as focal point for distributing educational materials on diabetes awareness.

SDEA is increasing its awareness campaign on diabetes and endocrine diseases this year, according to Futa.

“We will continue working with diabetic clubs, forums and societies within the Eastern Province and at the Kingdom-wide level, and increase our educational programs in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, women Societies, social centers, sport clubs and other community groups,” Futa said.

SDEA will also continue its cooperation with the International Diabetic Federation and the American Diabetes Association on conducting scientific meetings and conference in Saudi Arabia, according to Futa.

SDEA conducted 15 scientific conferences, lectures and workshops in 2009. The association also developed 20 educational leaflets on diabetes, nutrition, obesity, healthy shopping, foot care, dental care, etc.
