The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) conducted a health awareness campaign in Dubai Women’s College (DWC) to celebrate World Health Day.
The DHA conducted a number of health awareness activities like health checkups to access blood sugar and blood pressure levels, workshops on healthy nutrition and lectures of the importance of breastfeeding.
A team of nutritionists, led by Dr Waffa Ayesh, Director of Clinical Nutrition Department at the DHA, checked the height, weight, BMI (Body Mass Index), cholesterol, blood press and blood sugar levels of all 125 students who attended the workshop and recommended nutritional guidelines to ensure students keep their BMI under control.
The students were also educated about the health hazards of smoking, ways to quit smoking and were provided with educational material such as leaflets with information about the ill-effects of smoking.
A team of DHA doctors, lead by Dr. Hanan Ali Mubarak, Head of Community Health Services Program Section at DHA and her ‘Tobacco Free Dubai’ Team of physicians also used smokalysers to check the carbon monoxide levels of students and assess whether they require counseling to quit the habit.
