The Dubai Hospital has now expanded its emergency section to include trauma cases.
The hospital will cater to limited number of trauma cases which range from home injuries to fractures; however the hospital will not cater to road accident emergencies which will continue to be directed to the Rashid Hospital Trauma Centre.
Dr Mahmoud Ghanaim, Head of Emergency Department at the Dubai Hospital said “Our long-term goal is to set up a full-fledged trauma centre but for the moment we will only cater to limited number of trauma cases and we are fully equipped and qualified to handle such cases. This will also help reduce the burden on the Rashid Hospital Trauma Centre because currently even minor trauma injuries are presently directed there.”
He said the emergency section is equipped with a chest pain unit, an ENT and ophthalmic emergency room and isolation rooms for patients who have infectious diseases. In addition to this, the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department works along with the emergency section to deal with patients who need immediate medical attention.
Further, the trauma section also have a cardiology unit which is the first point-of-contact for any patient suffering from heart problems. “The unit is set up to conduct all necessary tests for patients, provide the patient quick and efficient diagnosis and conduct an initial assessment.”
