Head of the Shoura Council’s Health and Environment Committee, Abdullah Al-Direes, has said that increased public health awareness must start from school.
“Health awareness needs greater emphasis in the school curriculum and needs to be properly promoted among school pupils,” said Al-Direes.
In addition, Al-Direes also requested that the Ministry of Health take appropriate measures to teach the wider public in a way comprehensible to all through awareness campaigns drawn up by specialists in the field.
According to Al-Direes, some Ministry of Health-sponsored campaigns run in the media may not have had the desired effect due to their “not being ideally suited to all strata of society”, but he added that he believed that “a lot of the campaigns achieved their goals”.
Further recommendations at the conclusion of the three-day event included increasing the number of specialized physicians, increasing allocations for medical studies and promoting university research.
