Al- Khaleej Releases Facts About AIDS In UAE.

According to Al Khaleej newspaper, The UAE had 787 Aids cases reported by June 2009. Among those cases, 17% were a result of homosexual intercourse. Based on statistics from The Health Ministry of UAE, Al Khaleej added that 9% of the reported cases got AIDS for their infected mothers, while another 9% developed the disease during marital relationship involving infected partners.

The newspaper continued saying that 4% of the reported cases got the disease through infected blood transfusion, and another 4% were infected as due to the use of drugs. Al Khaleej stated “The remaining 57% of the patients contracted the disease through other means,”  Alkhaleej interviewed a doctor at Rashid HospitalRashid Hospital, in Dubai, who mentioned that UAE is not having a unified AIDS cases record. Dr Abdullah Estadi, head of the contagious diseases at the hospital, added that 130 AIDS patients visited the hospital for examination. They included 112 UAE citizens and 18 foreigners. There were six women among these patients. Dr. Estadi said “The expatriates have not been deported because they are convicted in court cases…they are being treated in the country…as for the other AIDS patients, the Hospital has no information about them,”
