The Ministry of Health in UAE announced that the medical fitness tests will no longer include tests for hepatitis and tuberculosis, except for workers. The date of the implementation of the new rule will be announced shortly.
Only few categories will be still requested to undergo hepatitis and tuberculosis tests before gaining access to the UAE. Among them are food handlers, maids, restaurant workers, nannies and educators/teachers. For other categories, only HIV test is required for new visas and renewals. Dr Mahmoud Fikri, CEO of Health Policies at the ministry of health, said that the new rule has been approved but he did not give further details on when it is going to be applied. He said “The changes have been approved but I cannot say what exactly unless we receive the approved copy of the law,”
A huge number of residents in the UAE are waiting for the new law to be active to start going to their jobs. Such as Umar S. who said “I have been given a paper that says I am medically unfit because I have Hepatitis though I have got an office job recently. I am very worried since I only have a few days left for my visit visa to expire. I may lose my job.”
