Hamad Medical Introduces “Discharge Lounge” To Reduce Delayed DischargesThe Corporation is about to start delivering a new concept, , to its hospitals, which is how to reduce the number of delayed discharged cases in these hospitals. The concept is highlighting the following results of delayed discharges which include shortage of available beds. Delivering this concept is a step among other procedures is going to conduct through the restructuring process taking place at the hospitals.

A ‘Discharge Lounge’ is going to be introduced at Hamad Medical hospitals to cope with shortage in available beds affecting these hospitals. The concept of reducing delayed discharged was presented last year in Al Khor Hospital. As a huge number of such discharges resulted in significant shortage of bed the some surgical operations were canceled due to the absence of available beds.

Discharge Lounge operates for six-days a week, its objective is to elevate the number of early discharges and thus increases the number of available beds. The lounge provides comfortable environment for patients before being discharged. Patients staying in the lounge will be under medical supervision till being discharged. Discharge Lounge is a step towards solving shortage in beds at hospitals as a recent report mentioned that inpatients who do not agree to leave hospitals after being treated are using 1/5 of the total number of beds at these facilities.
