Zakat Fund used to treat hepatitis patients in UAEIn a new initiative, the money paid for was used for treating patients suffering from . For the first year, a number of 74 patients throughout got benefits from this initiative, as Zakat funds which worth Dh1, 605,000 which was used to treat these 74 hepatitis patients. They also received financial support during the course of treatment.

The Zakat fund is provided for a year, which is the usual period needed by the majority of patients for treatment. However, patients who still need treatment after the one year period can reapply again to have the fund. A spokesman said today “The patients included are of varying nationalities, and reside in different parts of the UAE. We provide aid for one year, which is the standard dosage period required for these patients, after which most patients are cured,” He continued “Out of the 74 patients included, 70% have been cured, and the remaining are almost cured as well. Those who require further treatment can reapply, and we will study the case, and determine whether to provide further aid,”

The new Zakat funding initiative was named “Ajir w Afiya” which means “Health and Blessings” in Arabic. The initiative is going to provide funds to treat several diseases in addition to hepatitis. However, since there is a significant increase in the number of hepatitis patients, a special section of the fund will be directed for their treatments. The spokesman said “We hope to increase our aid to include an increase in the number of patients being helped by 10 per cent,”
