The Jordanian Ministry of Health announced that is currently reviewing a proposed payroll system that aims to promote the financial situation of ministry doctors. The announcement was made by a government official on Tuesday.
Nayef Fayez, the Jordanian Minister of Health, noted that his Ministry, along with the Ministry of Public Sector Development, is revising a payroll system, proposed by Jordan Medical Association (JMA), which is estimated to cost the kingdom about JD10 million every year as added costs if it was approved. Dr. Fayez was speaking in a press conference at Prince Hamzah Hospital. He confirmed that the Ministry of Health is putting in consideration any plans that may help in improving the financial situation of doctors in the Kingdom. Dr. Fayez said “We are sending doctors as part of delegations to work in Saudi Arabia, with each delegate staying for two months,” He mentioned that so far, 51 doctors had benefits from that initiative.
Such procedures and plans for improving the financial status of doctors in the kingdom come as a result of rising number of doctors leaving their jobs in the kingdom and travel outside Jordan for better salaries. Data from JMA show that more than 200 doctors have left their jobs in public hospitals and went outside the kingdom during 2010.
