The facility will aid in decreasing the large pressure on Al Sadd center, the only facility of its type in the country that received about 500,000 patients last year and has provided services for 350,000 patients so far this year. In a meeting with Al Sharq, Dr Khaled Al Ansari, director of Al Sadd Pediatric Emergency mentioned that “Work on the Al Daain center is in the final stages. We have already placed orders for equipment. Recruitment of staff — doctors, nurses and administrative staff — will begin soon. We expect the centre to be officially opened in the first quarter of 2011”.

The thirty-bed facility will provide the Qatari and expatriate population in the northern parts of the country involving Al Khor, Al Khartiyat, Duhail, Al Gharafa, Umm Salal Ali and Umm Salal Mohammed. Al Ansari reported “The center has a capacity for 200 to 300 patients a day, and a maximum 100,000 patients in a year. The premises will include three consulting rooms, an isolation room, pharmacy, x-ray and laboratory among other facilities. It will be functioning round-the –clock”. The medical teamwork will include fifteen expert pediatricians, fifteen nurses, ten laboratory technicians and motivating crew and fifteen pharmacy staff. It will be the second huge exclusive pediatric emergency center in Qatar after the Al Sadd center.

Recently the eighty-bed facility in Al Sadd has teamwork of 236 physicians and 200 nurses, among other motivating crew.6 physicians work in a shift over fourteen physicians are permissible in the peak hours. Al Ansari explained “Despite the fact that we have increased our capacity considerably, it has not helped reduce the crowding, because of the huge number of non-emergency visits. About 70 percent of the patients seeking treatment at the Al Sadd center come with minor ailments that can be treated in any primary health centre; we have plans to set up more satellite centers in other parts of the country. Currently we are gathering data on the children visiting the Al Sadd center to identify the localities requiring such facilities”.

The Al Sadd center is recently presenting a statistical study as part of plans to wide pediatric emergency services to more localities. In addition he also reported that Al Wakra hospital, which is prepared to open in April next year, will have a separate sector for children.
