The National Rehabilitation Center (NRC) in the UAE announced that it has recently signed a new agreement with the United Nations Office on Drugs and crimes (UNODC). The agreement represents a step in the mutual cooperation between the two organizations.
Hamad Abdullah Al Ghafri, NRC Director, mentioned that the agreement is going to help in achieving the common objectives of the Center and the UNODC. He added that significant official support is provided to achieve these objectives, among the supporters are the President, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. The offered support will result in promoting high-leveled healthcare, treatment and protection against drugs addiction. Francis Maertens, UNODC Deputy Executive Director, expressed his appreciation to the efforts carried out by the officials in the UAE to fight drug addiction in the country. He added that the facilities, services and laws of the UAE have encouraged the UNODC to choose the UAE as a regional hub for efforts against addiction.
