The First Multiple Sclerosis Patient Platform is finally launched in UAE

MS organization in UAEWith the affiliation of several independent organizations, key opinion leaders, healthcare groups and commercial corporations, The Middle East Multiple sclerosis () Patients Platform was recently launched in . This organization’s target is to improve the quality of lives of all who suffered from MS.

Dr Tawfik Alsadi, Head of Neurology Division at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Abu Dhabi said  “We are committed to building a movement by and for people with MS that will move us closer to a world free of multiple sclerosis. Every hour someone is newly diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis. We want to inspire and encourage people to take action to join this movement and end the suffering of patients with this disease across the region”.

MS is a chronic neurological disease that affects the Central Nervous system, which include the brain and the spinal cord. During the development of the disease, the cells within the nervous system become damaged which affects on the nerve signals, consequently, destroying normal sensation, movement and thinking.MS is mostly discovered in young ages, from 15 to 40. It can affect children even those who are two years old. It is an unpredictable disease affecting hearing, memory balance and mobility. There is no a powerful cure till now, that the patient can rely on it to have a normal life.

This recently-formed organization is going to spread the advocacy, education and support activities around the Middle East area, providing supportive services to people who suffered from MS and their beloved ones.MS Patients platform will release the first Arabic MS web portal, to provide people with appropriate advice and resources, in a way to promote this movement and giving the people a better image for MS.

About the complexity of the MS symptoms, spokesman Dr Tawfik Alsadi commented “MS is not easy to diagnose, there is no single or specific diagnostic test that is proof-positive to establish the diagnosis. Moreover, other conditions with similar symptoms may need to be ruled out before a final diagnosis can be made. There are different ways to tackle the problems caused by MS. Disease modifying drugs can help to reduce the frequency and severity of relapses, while many MS symptoms can be effectively managed using a variety of treatments”.
