A Deal Between Qatar’s Ministry of Interior And RAF For rehabilitating drug addicts

doctors in QatarRecently, local charitable bodies in DOHA have turned their concentration to develop initiatives to rehabilitate drug addicts. The Ministry of Interior’s anti-drug enforcement directorate has signed a deal for collaboration in rehabilitating drug addicts with Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services, defined as . 

The Memorandum of Understanding () for collaboration in rehabilitating drug addicts was signed between RAF and Interior Ministry ‘s Permanent Committee for Drug and Alcoholic Affairs (). Saad bin Jassim Al Khualaifi, the General of Public Security (DGPS) and the President of the , H E Major-General, signed on behalf of the ministry the MOU. While RAF was represented by Ayedh Al Qahthani, Managing Director.

Brigadier Mohammed Sultan Al-Khualaif, the director of Medical Services Department and member of the PCDAA, Abdullah Khalifa Al-Muftah, director of Public Relations Department Lt. Col, Ibrahim Eissa Al-Buainayn, director of Drug Combating Department Col, Ibrahim Mohammed Al Sameeh, the secretary of the PCDAA Maj were attending at the signing.

The DGPS mentioned “The signing of the MoU between the Ministry and RAF foundation in the field of rehabilitating drug addicts and abusers is implementation of the Cabinet decision approving the national drug combating strategy entrusting the PCDAA and other concerned authorities to accomplish the strategic plan”.

In addition, he reported “This is in line with the directives of the Minister of State for Interior Affairs to build strategic partnerships with active sectors of the society to support plans and programs to reduce demand and supply of illicit drugs and psychotropic substances”. Moreover, he added that “The Permanent Committee from its inception was keen to involve voluntary and civil society institutions to play their role in raising awareness among the community on perils of drugs”.

He focused on the importance of these social and voluntary organizations in increasing awareness on scourge of drugs and applauded them for their active contribution in this regard. Al Qahathai, RAF Director, expressed his pleasure on the signing of the MoU because the Ministry of Interior is the fundamental body that preserves the security in the society while RAF is seeking to strengthen the values and morals of the community.
