NRC Offers More Help To Establish Drug Rehabilitation Centers

NRCA senior official said yesterday that the National Rehabilitation Center () in will soon start providing advices on in the . Some of these advices include laws on treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts. Dr Hamad Al Gaferi, director general of the National Rehabilitation Center told Gulf News that until now, the recommendations that will be available to anti-drug officials and enforcement agencies in the country aren’t finished yet.

Dr Al Gaferi added “We aim to perform a program in order to raise awareness about the hazards of using drug among the youth. Also we’re planning to study a project to open up drug rehabilitation centers within prisons”.

An official from the Ministry of Presidential Affairs at the first regional meeting of the International Drug Policy Consortium in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region was the responsible of the announcement about the NRC’s possible new role in anti-drug regulation.

Early at the two-day conference the importance of healing drug addicts as patients rather than criminals was discussed by the attendants such as health professionals and anti-drug rehabilitation and enforcement officials. Dr Ahmad Yousuf Ali, medical director at the NRC and another speaker, told Gulf News on the sidelines of the conference that the most worrying issues was the increase in the use of poly-substances-a mix of other different substances that enhances the effect of the drug itself-by the inpatients kept in the facility.
