ODB Offers More Chances To Work In Health Sector

ODBThe Development Bank () presented a study among small and medium companies () in the Sultanate, which revealed the importance of projects in the health sector in providing various health services to both citizens and expatriates. This study contained data on various economic sectors of SMEs, and gave some statistics from the Ministry of Health () indicating that there were 1,193 specialty clinics start in 2009 with 3 million people visiting hospitals. The increasing range expected for the number of private health institutions was 4% and 11% for the number of patient visits.

According to ODB, it is sure that quality health projects will be supported like the establishment of specialised clinics, rehabilitation centers, laboratories and physiotherapy polyclinics in addition to supporting specialised clinics in the area of dentistry and gynecology and other medical specialties. In order to provide various lending portfolio, ODB expects to raise it is supporting of this sector beside the set objectives and the priorities of the government’s five-year plan (2011-2015).

The statistics presented from the MoH showed the existence of 5 private hospitals, 398 public clinics, 204 specialised clinics and health polyclinics, 152 dental clinics, and 57 Chinese and Indian clinics. Also in 2009 the number of private pharmacies reached 371. Moreover, during 2009 the total workmen employed in the health sector reached 5,026 workers comprising of 354 specialist doctors, 868 general practitioners, 368 dentists, 800 pharmacists, 1,264 nurses, and 271 laboratory technicians.
