Plans Are Ongoing To Establish Primary Healthcare Centers In KSA

Healthcare CenterAccording to Dr. Khalid Marghalani, spokesman of the Saudi Ministry of Health, there is ongoing plan by the Ministry of Health to convert 50-bed hospitals into primary across the Kingdom. He said “Because these hospitals have been performing in a satisfactory manner, the ministry won’t close them. But the ministry has stopped building such hospitals due to the consultants who have refused to work in these facilities”.

He added “The ministry recommended the establishment of 200-bed hospitals due to its feasibility studies because small hospitals are a drain on the ministry’s budget. Now it’s obvious according to the National Project for Comprehensive Medical Care that the cornerstone of the medical services is primary healthcare”.

Marghalani commented that the project is waiting for the final approval from King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. Furthermore, the ministry is currently setting up specialized medical cities in the north and south of the kingdom in order to deal with cases that are referred from small hospitals. These specialized facilities contain different departments such as pediatrics and cardiology.
