UAE’s Ministry Of Health Prepares National Tuberculosis Guideline

Tuberculosis InfectionRecently, the Ministry of Health in announced that it is organizing a national guideline for all government, private sectors and semi-government settings in order to become a national reference when dealing with tuberculosis.

The goal of the ministry is to maintain the country free of infectious diseases, for instance tuberculosis, through following the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO). Dr Mahmoud Fikri, Assistant Undersecretary for Health Policies at the Ministry of Health, mentioned that “Updating the guideline came as a result of the recommendations of the World Health Organization and we formed a special committee from the ministry itself and the health authorities in Abu Dhabi and Dubai”.

The guideline comes in English language and it will play an important role in helping medical and technical staff in order to deal with employees and patients of the national tuberculosis program to overcome the disease.

Director of Specialized Healthcare Department and Director of Tuberculosis National Program at the Ministry of Health, Dr Kalthoom Mohammad, reported that the guideline provides a brief explanation concerning the aims, role and objectives of the national tuberculosis program. In addition, she noted that the section has offered a detailed explanation related to the ways of detecting the disease clinically and classifying tuberculosis.
