New Payroll System Introduced in Jordan

A committee has been formed by the Ministry of Health to study a special for doctors so that they can work in public hospitals. “The public health sector is “suffering” due to shortage of doctors. Not just doctors with rare specializations, but even general Jordanpractitioners (GP) are reluctant to work in the ministry’s hospitals due to low wages” Medical Association (JMA) President Ahmad Armouti told The Jordan Times.

According to the JMA, more than 200 doctors, most of them working for the ministry, left the country. Armouti said “The ministry announced 250 vacancies for GPs in its hospitals and health centers this year, but “only 150 doctors accepted work with the low salaries paid by the ministry” He explained “We were requested to study, in detail, a special payroll system that we earlier submitted to the ministry and will send it to the minister next week”.

He added “The initiative, if approved, would cost the ministry an additional JD10 million each year. The committee might recommend a gradual implementation due to the current financial difficulties”.
