MOH in Amman to Unify Prices of Medical Procedures

JordanA senior government official revealed on Wednesday that a mechanism will be improved soon by the Jordanian Ministry of Health to unify prices for medical procedures conducted at various hospitals for public health insurance beneficiaries. “These hospitals charge the Health Insurance Fund different prices for the same procedure, which increases the ministry’s financial burden” said Minister of Health Yassin Husban. Refering to the ministry’s bylaws, public health insurance beneficiaries are referred to Royal medical, university and private hospitals and Prince Hamzah hospital in case a medical procedure is not available in public hospitals.

Husban told The Times over the phone yesterday “Referring patients to other hospitals helps reduce pressure on overcrowded public hospitals, but we want the prices to be reasonable and unified. The council is due to meet soon to follow up the issue” He explained that it will also be combined with clear criteria listing reasons because in the past some patients were referred to these hospitals although the required treatment was available in public health facilities.
