MOH is Calling For Developing the Health Sector in Riyadh

MoHAccording to King Abdullah, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, orders the Ministry of Health has approached seven expert international companies to build new five medical cities. Dr. Muhammad Kheshaim, Undersecretary for Planning and Development said “The medical cities will have to be operational in five years’ time. Beds in ministry’s hospitals will be increased by 70 percent in the next four years, from 34,200 to 54,000 beds at more than 349 hospitals and 2,750 primary care centers”.

This comment has been said during a speech delivered on behalf of the Minister of Health at the first annual Conference on Rheumatism Diseases organized by the Saudi Society for Rheumatism Diseases. Dr. Kheshaim demanded the expansion of medical services in an integrated and professional manner. He continued “The Kingdom will be taking a quantum leap in all sectors particularly the medical sector. He made special note of the 20 medical colleges in the Kingdom. The ministry is discussing the introduction of special scales for administrative jobs. There is also a plan to upgrade the quality of all services, whether technical, medical or administrative. The ministry is investing in human resource development to ensure better service provision”.

“One of the greatest challenges facing the ministry is the increasing burden of chronic diseases which in turn is raising the cost of primary health care in general” he added. Dr. Ramez Al-Suwailm, President of the Saudi Society for Rheumatism Diseases, said “The society is in the process of preparing a national medical record for rheumatism diseases in the Kingdom”.
