Captain Rashid Yousuf Bin Sandal, director of the department said “The new centers will be in areas near the beach and lagoons, and we will be focusing on Al Mamzar, Al Khan and Al Majaz. The department has also set up two rescue centers in the waters off Sharjah”.

In the last year, more than 12,000 rescue cases, which included 4,440 sick people, 4,517 injured in traffic accidents, and 1,280 miscellaneous emergencies were treated by the department. According to residents’ complaints about late arrival of ambulances, Captain Bin Sandal pointed out that an ambulance is on standby in every neighborhood. He added “It usually takes up to seven minutes for our teams to reach a scene. But when the ambulance is late it is because it is either stuck in traffic or because there are lots of pedestrians at the scene and taking pictures”.
