Municipality Continues to Inspect Food Outlets in Sharjah

SharjahA senior municipality official announced that last year in , 5,000 food establishments were found by the municipality not following the standard health and safety. Dr Rasha Ahmad Al Qasimi, Assistant Director General for Health, Environment and Quality, said “More than 57,000 food establishments were inspected in 2010 and 44 of them were temporarily shut down until they met the municipality’s health and safety requirements”. After the Annual Report 2010 of the at Sharjah Municipality the announcement was published.

The report said food control inspectors visited various food outlets, including restaurants, cafeterias, supermarkets, groceries, public kitchens, catering services, ice cream vendors, bakeries, fish markets, and fruit and vegetable markets. Dr Rasha continued “During our inspection, 12,000 food outlets that had been previously warned had managed to make amendments to their establishments, and they have been approved to sell their goods to consumers once again. 345 food samples were sent to the Municipality Laboratory, in addition to 115 samples based on the recommendation of consumers’ complaints to the Food Control Section”.
