Jordanian Health Ministry Loses Money due to Unused Medicines

AmmanOn Friday, a ministry official said that the Jordanian Ministry of Health loses JD35 million annually due to the unused or wasted medicines. Minister of Health, Yassin Husban, said “Drugs for different diseases are available for public health insurance beneficiaries and there is no shortage of them, but noted that medicine waste should be controlled and the ministry is looking for means to do so”. He mentioned in an interview with the “Tahta El Dhaw” program broadcast on Television that around 87% of Jordanians already have health insurance, and those who are not benefiting from any type of medical insurance will be covered soon.

He announced that according to the “Visiting Doctor” program, the Saudi ministry of health is committed to increase the number of doctors who work in . Last year, doctors were sent to Saudi Arabia to work in for two months, during which they earn JD6, 000 to JD7, 000 per month as part of the ministry program. He also suggested forming a national committee with representatives from the country’s medical associations to study and review issues concerning the sector. Husban added responding to a question regarding privatization of the ministry’s hospitals, “There is no such a plan, and any such news is a rumor”.
