Qatar Attends WHA 64th Session in Geneva

Geneva is participating in the 64th session of the Conference taking place currently in . The leader of Qatar’s delegation to the 64th session is Minister of Public Health, Dr Abdullah bin Khalid Al Qahtani, who is also the Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH).

In the beginning of the World Health Assembly (WHA) around delegates from 193 countries met yesterday. The conference will discuss several topics such as a report from an independent pandemic review committee, a virus-sharing agreement, and the fate of the world’s remaining smallpox virus stocks.
Housekeeping tasks are mainly involved in Today’s agenda such as electing a president for this year’s assembly and adopting a provisional agenda. The president is Cyprus’ health minister, Dr Christos Patsalides. Dr Margaret Chan, the WHO’s director-general started the WHA’s first day with a main statement. “A trend is emerging that puts the world’s latest and best health technology into the hands of countries that need it the most” she said.
