New Plan for Fighting Infectious Diseases is Needed in KSA

DammamDr. Huda Abdul Raheem Bukhari, Chairperson of the Society for Microorganisms and Infectious Diseases in Dammam, announced that coordinated action is necessary to stop the country’s infectious diseases. “The common infectious diseases in the Kingdom include (TB), Maltese Fever, hepatitis, , typhoid and malaria, in addition to some viral and bacterial diseases” Dr. Bukhari said.

She revealed that to control spreading of dengue fever in some areas of the Western Region including Jeddah and Makkah, more efforts should be done. All parties across the Kingdom are responsible for fighting this deadly disease such as the Ministry of Health and municipalities.

Also citizens have to keep their houses clean and eliminate all the breeding grounds of mosquitoes which transmit the disease. She added ”The second most common disease in the Kingdom is tuberculosis and pointed out that the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), is working to prevent and eradicate this infectious disease. More work needs to be done to realize this important goal, including setting up treatment centers with special specifications, including adequate isolation rooms and medical teams trained in infectious diseases, microorganisms and clinical sciences”.

Informing the public about the resistance of germs and microbes to antibiotics is considered the main challenge that faces the facility. Overuse or inappropriate use of drugs, unnecessary use in animal feeds or low doses causes resistance to any treatment.
