Importation of food products from some European countries is prevented as the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SDFA) is intending. It will ban food products which have caused deaths from the EHEC bacteria. A source at the SDFA announced that all the information about the imported products that could contain the EHEC bacteria will be evaluated before SDFA decides to ban them. “Food and medicine safety standards in the Kingdom are strict. They are not to be taken lightly in any circumstances as safety is non-negotiable” the source said.
Every product will be placed on the quarantine list until the official allows releasing them. While Saudi customers are asked to report all required information to prevent importing such products. On the other hand, the Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry would also be informed to make traders and importers report all contracts containing forbidden products until further notice. Authorities in Madrid denied that Spain is believed to be the source of the EHEC bacterium outbreak in Europe. EHEC lead to bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps and it is a type of Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (E. coli), which most of its strains are harmless.
