Serious Need of New Health Projects in KSA

RiyadhDr. Mohsen Al-Hazmi, deputy chairman of the Health Committee at the announced that although the Saudi government gave SR16 billion as budget to the Ministry of Health, around 60% of health projects are faltering. Dr. Al-Hazmi said “There is a great need for more hospitals throughout the Kingdom’s regions and demand for health services will continue although 20 new hospitals with a total capacity of 1,836 beds were opened in 2009 and 2010. Starting construction of the King Abdullah Oncology Center is a step in the right direction”.

12,000 cases of cancer were detected last year in the Kingdom and half of those people with the disease were admitted to hospitals, due to latest statistics. King Faisal Specialist Hospital in is looking after 3,000 of these cases. Dr. Al-Hazmi added “The Shoura Council is studying a new organizational structure for the organ-transplant centers and that he will approve it when deliberations are complete”.
