King Hussein Cancer Centre to be Built in Amman

AmmanMahmoud Sarhan, General Director of King Hussein Cancer Centre () in Amman announced the launch of building of the center costing JD120 million which will be finished in 30 months. To meet the rising demand for cancer care in ; two new buildings will be established. Sarhan said during a press meeting yesterday “We expect cancer cases among Jordanians to increase from 5,000 new cases in 2010 to 10,000 or 11,000 new cases in 2020”, explaining that its expected to the number of Arab patients seeking treatment in Jordan to increase from 2,500 to 3,500 new cases.

A New medical staff will be trained to work in the center to provide services to patients. Sarhan added “The center cannot cover the cost of the construction and the King Hussein Cancer Foundation will launch a fundraising campaign during the expansion. We depend on the fees paid by patients and donations, which cover operational costs”. The annual cost of treatment for each cancer patient ranges from JD3,000 to JD5,000. According to the KHCC director general “Medication costs for the majority of cancer patients are covered either by the Royal Court or the Ministry of Health. The cancer rate in Jordan is 130 cases per 100,000 of the population”.
