The Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Saidi has announced that new and developed healthcare facilities will be built across the Sultanate. These facilities will offer both the quality and quantity of health services. This announcement came at a Press conference at which the minister explained the obstacles and challenges being faced by the Ministry of Health (MoH). He also mentioned that the eighth Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) included those medical centers in places like Salalah, Saham, Masirah, Jalan Bin Bu, Mazyona, Sinaw and Sumail.
The national tertiary care- specialized centers for diabetes mellitus, cardiac care and genetic disorders- is involved in the plan. A 245-bed new psychiatric hospital in Muscat, two new hospitals in Salalah and Saham and upgrading of the hospital in Sumail are going to be completed as part of the plan. The minister revealed “We have plans to expand our secondary care hospitals and facilities. A modern and state-of-the-art laboratory centre for infectious diseases will be built in Muscat. These expansion plans aim at making the country ready to effectively cope with the enhanced demand for health services and to meet up the modern day health challenges”.
Furthermore, patients can now submit their reports and complaints about the services in various hospitals through the coming established call center. The minister added “We hope to resolve problems as quickly as possible, receive suggestions and carry out health services round the clock. A Department of Patient Services was established last year to follow up on complaints received by the ministry”.
