Some Cholera Cases are Discovered in Iran

TehranMarzieh Vahid Dastjerdi, Health Minister announced that due to “foreigners” and contaminated vegetables many cases have been discovered in . The minister said “In recent days, due to the illegal entry of foreigners in Iran, cholera appeared in parts of the country. The ministry investigating the issue found that these cases are linked to contaminated vegetables and the illegal entry of foreigners,” she said, urging people to “thoroughly wash vegetables, use only tap water and do not buy food from street vendors”.

However the minister did not explain how those cases were found or where they were discovered across Iran. Recently, the cases found in several towns west of were called “severe diarrhea” by local health authorities who refused to admit that they were cholera. According to official estimates, around 2.5 million Afghan refugees live in the country in addition to hundreds of thousands of who have illegally entered the Islamic republic. Also, some illegal immigrants from Pakistan and Bangladesh live in Iran.
