Riyadh Hosts a Children Cancer Care Conference Tomorrow

RiyadhThe ‘Our Children, Comprehensive Vision, Rights, Treatment … and Care’ conference is managed by The Philanthropic Society for Cancer Children on Oct. 17-18. This meeting will highlight the role of the private sector in supporting purposeful philanthropic groups that serve the society, and will focus on the latest updates and findings in the field of cancer. Princess Adela bint Abdullah, SANAD Society Chairman revealed “The conference aims at reviewing the challenges children face, and the international programs to support them and their families during cancer treatment”.

She added “Treatment for cancer-hit children, even non-Saudi children, is pro bono in the Kingdom, and that’s why we look for private sector’s participation in supporting the social, psychological and educational programs. We are hosting St. Jude Children’s Research Center to review its experience in exchanging expertise and its experience of philanthropic associations’ support to the hospital”.

“The second day would feature workshops to train female staff on the psychological and social needs of the cancer-hit children they are working with. The conference will review, alongside the child’s need for treatment, psychological and social care, his or her educational and upbringing needs through the contribution of social and educational establishments to help build his character during treatment” said Dr. Hassan Al-Solh, member of the scientific committee of the conference.

He added that Local and international speakers will discuss and showcase experiences and tools needed to provide support for cancer-hit children and their families inside and outside the hospital. In order to improve services offered from the associations and the hospitals, Adela mentioned the need of encouraging volunteers to participate in providing support for those children.
