UAEs Visiting Europe are Recommended not to Consume European Vegetables

UAE citizens travelling to European countries are asked by the Foreign Ministry to stop consuming vegetables which are expected to contain an E. coli. Eisa Abdullah Masoud Al Kalbani, director of the Department of the Nationals’ Affairs at the ministry commented “The ministry is following up the issue in coordination with the UAE Consulate in Munich”. As a result of several deaths caused by vegetables contaminated with E. coli, Al Kalbani asked all nationals travelling or residing in Germany, Spain, Denmark and Sweden to stop eating vegetables.

Dr Mariam Al Shanasi, acting undersecretary at the ministry said “The precautionary measure has been advised in view of the deadly E. coli outbreak in Europe that apparently has been traced to cucumbers”. Cucumber imports from Spain, Germany, Denmark and Holland are placed into a ban list temporary by the Ministry. All the other vegetables and fruits are excluded from this list.

Better Standards For Nutrition Announced In KSA

According to Mansour Al-Hawasi, Deputy Health Minister, the Saudi Ministry of Health in Riyadh has set better nutrition standards in food served to patients of government hospitals.

During an event on nutrition held at King Fahd Medical City in Riyadh, he reported that “In addition to our internal arrangements about nutrition, we also hope to carry out a nationwide awareness campaign to educate people on the consumption of safe foods and its related health issues”

In addition, the ministry’s Directorate for Nutrition supervises 20 nutrition management centers and 244 nutrition departments in hospitals with more than 1,000 nutrition specialists. Moreover, it supervises over than 6,000 food-catering employees and workers who attribute to 25 registered food caterers that serve government hospitals that offer everyday 50,000 meals to Saudi public hospital patients and staff.

The ministry’s General Nutrition Supervisor, Mishary Al-Dakheel, mentioned that change in Saudi lifestyles; involving over-eating and lack of exercise have led to new eating-related adverse health conditions, involving inflammatory bowel disease, allergies, heart disease obesity and osteoporosis.

The First National Simulation And Training Center In Ajman.

The National Simulation and Training Center (NSTC) has been launched today in Ajman by The National Training LLC. (Tadreeb) which is a part of the UAE Offset Group. The main mission of these centers is to provide training to Emirati medical professionals in order to offer medical services at the local and international Emirates World Humanitarian Mobile Hospitals.

Bringing international levels to professional training throughout the UAE and the GCC will be the major task of Tadreeb. It has exclusive affiliations with all known professional programs, such as The European Resuscitation Council, Emergency Nurses Association, University of Georgia and American Academy of Family Physicians, National Disaster Life Support Foundation, Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians. A strategic partnership between the Ministry of Health, Emirates World Humanitarian Mobile Hospital and Tadreeb’s Emirates Academy of Emergency Medicine is introduced by the humanitarian initiative.

The National Simulation and Training Center (NSTC) is the first company in the region that puts plans to offer training to about 3,000 medical professionals in certain programs. “The launching of this center suites the Ministry’s strategic plan, and gives the priority to training national paramedics in order to increase social voluntary programs and provide all the possible help to those who need it all over the world” said Health Minister Dr. Hanif Hassan.

Khadem Al Darie, team leader of the Emirates World Humanitarian Mobile Hospital mentioned that the first task of the center will be to give training to 18 national doctors and nurses through certain programs.

No Communicable Diseases In Haj This year.

This year, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, the Saudi Heath Minister, mentioned that pilgrimages didn’t suffer any communicable diseases. The minister mentioned, at mass media meeting in Mina, “This is one of the big fruits of the constant directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to provide the best possible healthcare services to the guests of Allah, the pilgrims, and the visitors of His sacred house in Makkah”.

Dr. Al-Rabeeah reported that this information was depending on the reports brought from different health committees, involving statistical data and other information concerning precautionary measures taken by the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia. At all ports of entry of pilgrims he attributed an accurate surveillance operation, arriving by air, land or sea that proved in an effective way the forbidden entry of infectious diseases into the Kingdom .

He also explained “In addition to all that, King Abdullah Medical City this year involved in providing fourth level healthcare services to pilgrims such as complex cardiac treatment and surgery in addition to other types of very specialized and rare medical services” Moreover, he noted that remote digital monitoring cameras at all healthcare facilities aided in monitoring for any potential outbreaks.

Rashid Center for Diabetes and obesity opens in Ajman

Rashid Center recently in Ajman for Diabetes and Obesity Research, and it has already performed a number of bariatric surgeries since its soft opening. The center was officially opened by His Highness Shaikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman. It’s the first in the Middle East to offer treatment for both diabetes and obesity. It has seven sections to treat the disease such as for general diabetes, nutrition, physiotherapy, eye diabetes, foot diabetes, societal research and clinical research.”The centre is fully equipped with the latest machines to do weight-loss surgeries as well as provide therapy for diabetes and hypertension,” said Dr Hanif Hassan, Minister of Health. “Diabetes is the most common disease not only in the UAE but in many Arab and Gulf countries and worldwide. The ministry has been monitoring the disease for a long time.”

A new advanced system has been implemented at the centre will record patient data, doctor’s appointments and offer drug prescriptions all at one go. “The centre has a special laboratory equipped with the latest devices that will deliver results within 40 minutes and they will be transferred to the doctor before the patient’s appointment,” said Dr Mahmood Fikri, Executive Director for Health Policies at the ministry. “A patient can leave the centre within 48 hours after the surgery and resume normal life within a week to 10 days.”

The center involves nutrition specialists, a psychologist, nurses, specialists in obesity and diabetes and a physiologist. It is also preparing a national diabetes registry for assessing the accuracy of the number of people affected by the disease. “The centre will also conduct a number of researches in cooperation with Lund University in Sweden and local universities,” said Dr Fikri. “Specialized programs and courses in cooperation with international medical experts in future will help boost the local workforce to develop national specialists in diabetes and obesity treatment,” he added.
