GE Healthcare will highlight its advanced range of innovative diagnostic technologies at the third Arabian Radiology Congress from April 29 to May 2, 2010, at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center at The Dead Sea in Jordan.

GE Healthcare will feature more than 20 international speakers and over 100 specialized lectures on wide-ranging topics that address the challenges and advances in modern diagnostic services.

During the Arab Radiological Congress (ARC) 2010, GE Healthcare aims to enhance awareness on the need for ‘earlier healthcare’ and to promote healthymagination, GE’s vision to develop innovations focused on reducing costs, improving quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery.

In addition, GE Healthcare will launch its groundbreaking Optima CT660, a Computed Tomography (CT) product -both GE ecomagination certified and healthymagination validated.

Moreover, there will be Optima CT660 is a brand new total body scanner, suitable for all clinical applications including cardiac. It includes flow down technologies and applications from the well known GE’s Discovery CT750 HD and the LightSpeed VCT scanners, such as ASiR ultra low dose reduction technique.

GE also spotlights GE’s Discovery CT750 HD, a CT scanner which delivers fine detail with its Gemstone detector. This one tube, one detector scanner allows dual energy spectral imaging which improves significantly image quality, reduces artifacts and help characterize lesions.

GE Healthcare recently signed with Jordan Hospital, a premier healthcare provider in Amman, to equip the hospital with the latest diagnostic equipment solutions including the Kingdom’s first-ever high definition computed tomography (CT) diagnostic equipment – the Discovery CT750 HD and Signa 1.5T HDxT magnetic resonance (MR) system.

The first Radiology Technologists Conference will be organized with the Saudi Medicare 2010 from April 12 at Riyadh International Exhibition Center is set to present new applications and scientific research papers by 23 medical experts from around the world, said Mohammed Al-Hussaini, Deputy General Manager, Riyadh Exhibitions Company (REC), the organizer of the event.

The 4th Medical Devices Scientific Forum, accredited by the Saudi Council for Health Specialties will focus on topics related to medical devices technology and management and the challenges that health professionals working in the field are facing.

Saudi Medicare 2010 will have the participation of world-renowned specialists from Saudi Arabia, Europe, North America, the Middle East, and other parts of the world, he said.

The medical experts will provide in-depth discussions in areas such as medical imaging, nuclear medicine, radiotherapy and radiation protection, he said.

“The forum supports the Kingdom’s efforts to improve medical facilities and restructure the management of 218 government hospitals into private enterprises,” he explained.

The Radiology Technologists Conference, he said, will be of great interest as it is the first-ever event to focus on the future prospects and challenges of radiology technologists in Saudi Arabia.

Al Ain Al Ain Hospital has completed the redevelopment of its 14-bed intensive care unit (ICU) and has added three new operating theatres, promising the best possible medical service to the people living in the oasis city.

The hospital has also commissioned new clinical imaging diagnostic machines, including a CT scanner for the radiology department.

“These new facilities and services set a standard that is comparable to some of the best health-care institutions in the world,” said a spokesperson of the hospital.

George Jepson, chief executive of the hospital, said the completion of these facilities is part of a larger programme to redevelop the hospital into one of the best health-care institutions in the region and beyond. “This is a crucial milestone for us,” he said.

The new ICU is spacious and modern. It is comprised of 14 enclosed and private cubicles, including two paediatric units, two isolation units and one VIP room. The unit will be headed by a dedicated expert who will be assisted by a multi-disciplinary team of medical experts.

The new operating theatres will also provide specialist operations such as joint replacements and surgeries for sports injuries, Jepson said.

“The most important innovation in the operating theatres is their positioning as a trauma centre, which will have a specialised team of medical experts from all crucial disciplines under a trauma leader to cater to critical cases,” said Jepson.

Professor Stefan Marlovits, director of Trauma Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine and deputy medical director of Al Ain Hospital, said the trauma centre has extreme importance since 20 per cent of the deaths in the UAE occur due to accidents.

Al Ain Hospital is owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, which is responsible for all the curative activities of the public hospitals and clinics in the capital.

Al Ain Hospital announced that it has completed another redevelopment of its facilities and services with the completed project for three new Operating Theatre (OT), an upgraded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and a new Clinical Imaging diagnostic machines.

In addition, the most important innovation in the OT is its positioning as a Trauma Centre, which will have a specialised team of medical experts from all crucial disciplines under a trauma leader to cater to critical cases.

Prof. Michael Fuchsjaeger, Consultant Radiologist and Associate Professor of Radiology at Medical University of Vienna is in charge of the new Clinical Imaging Institute at Al Ain Hospital. He said: “The new CT Scanner is a revolution in clinical imaging. It scans faster than the heart beat. As a result, the patient need not be pre-medicated prior to the scanning procedure. Because it is a dual source scanner with two radiating sources, the scanning procedure is extremely quick and complete allowing us to do diagnostic imaging for multiple critical cases.”

Another advantage of the new CT Scanner is that it exposes patients to 50 per cent less radiation risk than most other CT machines. While radiation risk is already small with CT Scanners, this advantage, along with its rapid diagnostic capabilities is of particular advantage in times of critical medical intervention.

Al Ain Hospital announced that the facility’s enhanced sections and services such as those in the newly commissioned Labour and Delivery area contributed positively to the increase in patient flow.  The hospital continues to make improvements to help meet or exceed patient expectations.

In 2009 Al Ain Hospital opened a new Labour and Delivery Department and also initiated redevelopment of Radiology, ICU and 3 new Operation Theatre which are now in advanced stages of completion.

Further, the hospital undertook a major revamp of the Emergency Medicine Department as part of the healthcare entity’s vision to provide the efficient services in critical care and trauma management to the community.
